Activity Center Refresh: Project Update

The Activity Center Refresh has reached an important point in the planning process, with several key steps now complete and the project moving to Board consideration.
Where the Project Stands
The initial concept for the Activity Center Refresh was developed with community input and collaboration with the professional design team. Since then, the project has moved through design development and revisions, contractor selection and bidding, and financial review.
Activity Center ad hoc committee representatives partnered with the design team throughout the design process to help shape the project. Members included Jan Pitts, Sarah Burgess, Rick Smith, and Tiffani Chavez. Kathleen Mutch has replaced Jim Maxwell.
The conceptual layout reflects the major components of the proposed refresh. Some details—including fixtures, furnishings and other selections—have not yet been finalized and will be addressed as appropriate based on the direction of the project. This layout reflects a conceptual rendering, not exact blueprints.
The Next Decision Point
The Financial Review Committee has completed its review and will present its recommendation to the Board of Directors at its Tuesday, September 22 meeting.
The Board will consider that recommendation and determine the appropriate next steps for the project.

Exciting News!
The project is moving forward! The Activity Center is long overdue for a refresh, and the MBV community can look forward to a much needed update coming soon.
Background
Six years ago, components of the Activity Center were fully funded through the reserve fund for replacement. Since that time, several different versions of Ad Hoc committees have attempted to come up with a plan.
This year, the Board approved Mackenzie Collier Interiors (MCI) to provide interior design and project management services.
MCI worked with the Ad Hoc Committee Members; Jan Pitts, Sarah Burgess, Ian Holmes, Rick Smith, and Tiffani Chavez to determine concepts. A Blended Traditional and Open Concept was approved by the Board.
Benefits of Blending the Traditional with the Open Concept
A seating area which focuses social interaction combats loneliness and provides a comfortable area for residents to read, play board games, or meet realtors, vendors and friends. It provides change of environment from your home and a neutral, welcoming community space encouraging people to linger, interact and participate.
Retaining a substantial book collection. The book exchange currently in place is a real plus to the community. It’s a great benefit to residents and a selling point to new home buyers.
Modernizing the ‘front office’ gives a fresh, energized ambiance to current residents and future homeowners. It’s a much-needed refresh to the office space, and creates a pleasant work environment.
Next Steps
Work with MCI to finalize the design of the Blended Traditional and Open concept. MCI to provide list of contractors, develop bid proposal, and obtain bids
The Financial Review Committee will make recommendation to Board for funding source
The Board will review and approve funding allocation or not.
The need for a community vote will be determined depending on funding allocation and total cost
